Gut-Hormone Connection
Often, when facing any kind of hormonal issues, we go to the doctor, they run a whole slew of tests to see what our hormones look like, and then maybe we get put on hormonal medication - like birth control - or even just told to reduce our stress level.
But what if there was an entire system that influences our hormonal health all day long, everyday?
Well, there is - it's our gut!
That's right! Our gut has a MAJOR influence on our hormones!
Gut-Thyroid Connection
One of the most amazing things about the human body is the connection between all the different systems within the body. I really like to emphasize that everything is connected because often times we are sent to see a specialist who specializes in just one area of the body.
For example, it is really tempting to go see a doctor specializing in thyroid health for suspected thyroid problems. Just remember that they often ONLY look at the thyroid and then prescribe medication or therapies dedicated solely to the thyroid.
An Introduction To Your Microbiome
Whether we like it or not, we are playing host to thousands of species of microorganisms inside our digestive tract. Different species like to live in different areas of your digestive tract, so the bacteria growing in the first part of your small intestine won’t be the same as those living in your colon. These bacteria are collectively referred to as our gut microbiota and are also called probiotics because they have a positive impact on our health.
3 Phases of Stress
Stress is stress is stress.
So many people are trying to get healthy through just nutrition alone. But over time, they begin to lose themselves within the journey of healing and that journey becomes obsessive. That obsession alone will create stress and create so many road blocks to your recovery.
6 Ways Towards Slowing Down
When slowing down was my only option....
I was forced to slow down (more like stop fully ) here is what got me through and what I will continue to do daily:
Tune Into Your Body
EAT WHEN YOUR HUNGRY
REST WHEN YOUR TIRED
RELAX WHEN YOUR STRESSED
LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
“And I said to my body softly, ‘I want to be your friend.’ It took a long breath and replied, ‘I’ve been waiting my whole life for this.” ~Nayyirah Waheed
Why I Cook
Cooking has become mostly a spectator sport. There are more than 25 well known celebrity chefs cooking on TV today, yet fewer people are actually cooking than ever before. Apparently only 27% of Americans cook on a daily basis*(2). It’s not that they don’t want to, though. When surveyed, a full ninety eight percent of Americans say they prefer to prepare a meal at home*. Then why aren’t they doing it?
